SUN Qixin’ Attendance at the 2nd UN Conference on South-South Cooperation

     On March 20, 2019, SUN Qixin, President of China Agricultural University (hereinafter referred to as CAU), attended the opening ceremony of the 2nd UN Conference on South-South Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as the Conference) and related forum in Buenos Aires, Argentina.


    

    With the theme of "the role of South-South Cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities", the Conference aimed to summarize the promotion of the UN for South-South Cooperation over the past 40 years, discuss the opportunities and challenges for South-South Cooperation under the new situations, and formulate the working suggestion and action plan for promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. HU Chunhua, Vice Premier of China, attended the Conference and delivered a keynote speech, and Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, chaired the Conference.


  

    Before the Conference, SUN Qixin visited the “Achievements Exhibition of South-South Cooperation Project over the past 40 years between China and the United Nations” held at the main venue. The Sino-African Agricultural Cooperation Project, "Poverty Reduction Demonstration Program by Scaling up Maize Labor-intensification System in Tanzania" was exhibited as a typical case at the Conference.



    During the Conference, SUN Qixin also briefly reported to the Vice Premier HU on the promotion of poverty reduction and social development in Africa via the China-Africa agricultural cooperation project of CAU.


    LI Xiaoyun, XU Xiuli and JI Lanlan, Dean, Deputy Dean and Assistant Dean of China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (CISSCA) of CAU, respectively, also attended the opening ceremony of the Conference.
