College of Biological Sciences (CBS) was established since 1984, which was the earliest college for biological sciences and life sciences in China. CBS was merged from Departments of Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Plant Protection, Meteorology, and Animal Science. At present, CBS owns four departments, including Department of Plant Sciences, Department of Zoology & Animal Physiology, Department of Microbiology & Immunology , and Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. CBS has one Life Science Center and four State Key Disciplines. State Key Laboratory for Agro-biotechnology, State Key Laboratory for Plant Physiology & Biochemistry, and MOA Key Laboratory for Agro-microbial Resource Utilization are built in CBS. CBS has 155 faculty members, including four Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, eight Changjiang Scholars, four Chief Scientists of the National Basic R&D Program, seven Distinguished Young Scientists of National Fund, and two Outstanding Innovation Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). CBS has a complementary system for undergraduate, master degree, doctorate degree, and post-doctor cultivations. Nowadays, CBS is becoming an important base for research and talent cultivation. Recently, CBS hosted about 200 national key programs and international cooperative projects such as The National Basic R&D Program of China, and The National High Technology R&D Program of China. The total annual research grants of CBS are 5.86 million US dollars. Since the establishment of CBS, our scientists received eight National Prizes and 30 Provincial or Ministerial Prizes. Young professionals in CBS have published several high quality original research papers on famous international journals such as Cell, Nature, PNAS, and Plant Cell.
